Mundaring was established some time during the building of Mundaring Weir (1898-1903), being the most accessible place to reach the Weir by rail. C.Y. O’Connor, the Chief Engineer in WA’s Public Works Department, was the architect.
The Weir was designed to collect water and pump it the 525 kms to the water-starved Goldfields around Kalgoorlie, Coolgardie and country towns en route.
The Reservoir Hotel at the Weir was built in 1898 and is now known as the Mundaring Weir Hotel.
